Christmas Nail Art

Hey kids!

Well, it’s been a long time since I blogged! Life has been incredibly busy, which happens to the best of us. In the last few months I had to say farewell to my best friend who moved over to the UK and it’s also been a bit of an emotional time too.

Anyhow, I just have some Christmas nail art to share, I won’t write much because I don’t have much else to say or much energy at the moment. I just wanted to post this and share before the big day is here!

Halloween Mash Up!

Hello my lovelies

Happy Halloween! It’s not really a holiday is it (since we don’t get the day off..) but nonetheless here is a Halloween inspired manicure! It’s a bit of a mash up of heaps of designs that I’ve seen around, I used a YouTube tutorial by my girl Jessie at Nailed It NZ for the eyeballs. So easy!

As with all nail art, just take your time and let the layers dry. Be sure to seal it all in with a fast drying and high gloss top coat, it makes a big difference to dry time and the finished look!

Which of these is your favourite?

Simple Cobalt Chevron Nails

Hello my lovelies!

I have a pretty simple, very easy but rather stunning (well, in my opinion anyway) manicure to share with you today.

I’ve been considering getting the new-ish gel type polishes from revlon (ya know the ones that claim to stay on for ages and ages and you gotta get that special top coat?) and they had this really beautiful blue.. Gosh I am terrible at remembering names of polishes and collection off the bat! Well I was looking through my stash and realised that I have a blue very similar already in Endless Blue by Sinful Colors. So scratch that, semi lemming gone and I slapped this on my nails!

Never satisfied with just a single creme finish colour I used a Picture Polish lacquer in Metallic Mush to create a simple chevron tip. I think this design always makes your mani look clean and nails look a little bit longer. What do you think?

Watermelon Ombré

Hello!

Y’all must have done something really good to get another nail art post so quickly! Maybe the nice weather is making me more motivated to make pretty nail art designs or something? Who knows! In any case, I tried out a design I saw on the Hello Maphie YouTube channel for a ombré watermelon design.

I didn’t think it came out as cute as it was in the video but then or woke up the next day and looked at it again and it looked awesome to me.. But then when I was walking to work I decided against them again. My mind is flip flopping over my execution of this design. I misplaced my black striper and I had to use a paint brush for the seeds so I think that’s one of the main things I’m unhappy with about this manicure..

All in all though, it’s an easy design (maybe make the pink a little larger than the green though.. Not a huge fan of the half and half look).

What do you think? Better than other methods to create watermelon nails or not?

Leppy chevvy nail art

Oh hello lovelies!

I actually have some pretty fierce nail art to share with you in this post. I know it’s been a little while, but you know how I love leopard print, it’s actually really simple (because any mistakes can be forgiven easily).

I saw this design on All Nails Everything’s Instagram a couple of weeks ago and I immediately thought “I NEED TO DO THIS” since chevron and leopard are my go to designs! How did I not think of this sooner?!

I used two coats of Beige by Picture Polish (yay! Independent brands!) as the base colour and then used a gold BYS polish called Buried Treasure for the leopard spots. I don’t have any striping tape (and I’ve never used it.. Too scared!) so I used the polish for the gold in the chevron too. The original design was matte but I made mine glossy. I haven’t actually had matte nails in a really long time.. Maybe it’s time for a revisit! I usually go with glossy because fast dry top coat.. Hello, ain’t nobody got time to wait for nail polish to naturally dry..

4th of July manicure

Hello nail polish lovers!

Just a quick little post showing off my Independence Day themed manicure! We don’t traditionally celebrate this American holiday in New Zealand but I had a themed event to go to on the 4th of July so it worked out pretty perfectly!

I used a YouTube tutorial by MissJenFabulous for this look and just combined most of the looks she used into one skittle style manicure.

Well I hope all my American readers had a great Independence Day! Don’t forget to follow my Instagram (@9to5nails).

Blush Hour Tips

Hello my lovelies!

I know it’s been a little while since I did some cool nail art but I have acquired a lot (like, a lot) of nail polish over the last few months and have so many untried polishes! So this is a pretty cool way of trying out an untried and still getting a tiny nail art fix.. Yay ombre tips, you rule!

One of my more recent untrieds is from the OPI Spotlight on Glitter collection. I only got one of these (I did read somewhere that most of them are dupes anyway) which was Blush Hour. It’s such a pretty polish! Especially in the bottle (not saying it looks bad on the nail). A pretty fuchsia jelly PACKED full of glitter! Yay! That’s what we like – glitter bombs!

I layered it over the tips of a plain pink creme polish (Essie Lights) and this manicure actually lasted a really long time – well, for me. I change my polish at least three times a week so anything that gets to stay on more than 3 days is impressive to me. It means it’s either really resilient or really prettyyyyyy. In this case, it’s both. I really should try it out on it’s own.. But I totally have commitment issues. When it comes to polish that is haha.

Red and black chevron nail art

Hey lovelies!

Yep! I know! I lagged again. Silly me. In any case, did you see that there’s a new Polish Addicts New Zealand blog? You can check it out (and my profile) here.

Today I have a pretty “bad-ass” manicure look for you, it’s semi inspired by the Gwen Stefani range by OPI but really just ended up looking like this after I played around with a striper for a bit and had some patience with glitter.. Hehe..

I do have the red from the Gwen collection (over and over a-Gwen) but for this manicure I actually used The Thrill of Brazil as the base colour for this mani. It is one of my fave reds at the moment, I’ve found it doesn’t stain my nail as much as other reds I’ve used have and goes on smoothly (opaque in two coats, oh yessss). I alternated the chevron base with the black striper and used glitter from an Ulta3 polish.. Very carefully fishing it out with a toothpick and placing it on the point of the chevron!

My head is in the (pink) clouds

Hello my lovelies!

I have a pretty pink manicure for you today – remember on Wednesdays we wear pink otherwise you can’t sit with us! If you get this reference then you’re my kind of person. If not I suggest you google it! Yes, I wear pink every Wednesday.

I’ve done the cloud manicure before in blue and white and a rasta colour type pallette so I decided to try it in my fave polish colour – pink! I’ve been going through my polish and swatching on sticks and pink is definitely hands down the winner. I have over 50 (yet to do an official count of my stash).

I started off with OPI Samoan Sand as a neutral base (three coats because I had some staining to hide on my natural nails) and then used Revlon Cupid for the baby pink layer and Hello Kitty Back to the Fuchsia for the hot pink tips. This design is extremely easy, it really is just three strokes and making sure the initial placement of the brush has a “blob” of polish so that the cloud is rounded. If you try this out for yourself be sure to use polishes that are quite opaque for layering and preferably fast drying too so that you’re not waiting around for hours for each layer to dry!

Skittle Nail Art

Hey!

Yep.. Again.. Long time no blog! I can’t believe it’s April already! Where does the time go? Anyhow, I have quite a backlog of posts to share!

A while ago I did this skittle style manicure using OPI You’re Such A Budapest and OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook as the base colours and Sinful Colors Thimbleberry, a gold striper and a black striper for contrast. I think the middle finger actually looks quite.. Wonder Woman inspired! What do you think? I used a toothpick for the polka dots to get those really, really small uniform dots.
