Movember manicure

I decided to sneak one in for movember! There are a few guys at work who have been growing out their mo’s (doesn’t look so good most of the time) so I decided to try out the Cute Polish Movember nails. I started off with two coats of Jordana Soft White then went over it with two coats if Nicole by OPI in Dream Maker to give it a bit of shimmer. I then used BYS Black Satin and a dotting tool/ toothpick to create the mo. I suggest using the video on YouTube for reference.

V-Gap Manicure

I wanted some sparkle today so I started off with two coats of OPI Designer.. De Better. I really wanted to try a tape manicure but I couldn’t get the tape to not drag the existing polish off so I just freehanded a v shape at the cuticle using my new teal Étude House polish GR601. I am getting obsessed with this polish, I’ll have to limit myself though because I don’t know where to buy it! I then used a red striper to add more contrast to the V shape. I think it turned out pretty well for a free handed attempt! You can see on the thumb there is some dragging near the tip.. Oops, I fixed it up afterwards!

Graffiti heart nails

Today I found some Étude House polish at a random store while shopping. They only had three bottles and it was two for $8.00 so I just got two (great restraint) I can’t read the labels on the bottom but they have got codes: GR601 (the teal colour) and WH702 (the grey). I have to say the formula is great – I used two coats. I then used a red polish by Orly (Soul Mate) to create red hearts on the tips of my nails then created an outline with a black striper. Then I just used a dotting tool with a white polish to create the highlight.

I loosely followed this tutorial by Nailside for this look 🙂

Quick ombré nails

The other day I wanted to try some of the new polishes I got. I alternated Sally Hansen Himalayan Blue with Sinful Colors Bianca then I used the same colours to create an ombré.

On the other hand I also tried my new Kleancolor polish Twinkly Love which has lots of heart shaped glitters in it. First of all.. The hearts did not want to get onto the brush let alone the nail and second the polish ended up being sooooo thick once I was able to dab the hearts on.

Off topic post alert: The Hobbit build up!

Just off topic but I wanted to share my own photos of the amazing Gandalf display that WETA Workshop has installed above the Embassy Theatre for The Hobbit build up! I’m sad that I have to work on the day of the premiere! I remember when they did The LOTR premiere on Courtenay Place it was crazy/amazing! Stuff like this makes me glad and proud to be a Kiwi/Wellingtonian!

Doesn’t it look amazing! Aaannd it was such a beautiful day yesterday (especially for Wellington)

Cheap polish haul

Just a quick haul share! Trying to buy Christmas presents and ended up buying myself polish.. But I figure its okay because it was a bargain!

Revlon – Royal ($8.00 from postie plus)
Sally Hansen – Himalayan Blue ($6.00 from postie plus)

Tuxedo nails: gangnam style edition

Today I decided on tuxedo nails but since I don’t really like doing the same design twice I decided to mix it up my making it baby blue so that its gangnam style! Heeeeeey.. Sexy lady! Hahaha!

The only thing I don’t like about this mani is trying to paint the little bows. I am not good at it. At all.

All of the polishes used for this mani were under $5 each – I didn’t intend for if to be that way, but there you go!

City skyline nail art

I took inspiration directly from a Cute Polish tutorial on YouTube. I still love pretty much all of her tutorials. They are straight to the point and so easy to follow.

I only did the design on an accent nail but I think it looks really striking this way! Sometimes laziness pays off.. All the other nails are one coat (yup! one!) of OPI Purple With A Purpose. I started off with a white base and sponged a dark blue and purple onto my nail (with the blue next to the cuticle) I then used a black regular polish to create the buildings and a yellow polish with a toothpick for the lights. I tried doing a crescent moon but I don’t like the way it turned out so I changed it to a round moon – which do you think is better?

Ombré individual nails

I went with a ombré effect but not the sponging on the nail type – I went with the 5 colours across 5 nails type thing. Is that the best way to describe it?! It is my lazy Sunday manicure for my lazy Sunday afternoon tv session (teen mom is on while I post this).

Here are all the colours I used from thumb to pinky:

OPI Animal-istic
Revlon Jelly (210)
OPI La Paz-itively Hot
Sinful Colors Bianca
Sally Hansen First Blush

Cheap polish score!

I picked up this $3.00 bottle of nail polish from Rubi Shoes yesterday. I needed a white and figured I wouldn’t be too sad if this white polish didn’t work out. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that it is just as good (if not a little bit better) than Sally Hansen white on. Really good score for three bucks. The swatch below is two coats.

I can’t wait to go back and buy the other colours!
